Abstract

Thermal conductivity data for thick anodized aluminum coatings prepared in sulfuric acid solutions are found using a transient heat-flow method. For the coatings investigated, thermal conductivities ranged from 0.5 to 1.0 W/m K, more than an order of magnitude lower than the thermal conductivity of bulk, polycrystalline aluminum oxide (about 30 W/m K), which is frequently used to estimate the thermal conductivity of these coatings.
