Abstract

The study aims to investigate the possible effect of glass transition firstly on the thermal conductivity of the CaO-B2O3 system. The addition of CaO was varied in the range of 0 to 40 mass %. The transient hot-wire method, transient hot-strip method, laser flash method and the thermoreflectance method were applied for the investigation in the temperature range of 298 K to 1175 K. Positive temperature dependence was found for the 38mass %CaO-B2O3 sample, which is the same as reported for B2O3. However, slopes of the temperature dependence change just above the respective glass transition temperature. The addition of CaO to B2O3 leads to the increase of thermal conductivity. The study discusses the possible structural change of B2O3.
