Abstract

In this study, the effects of Zr additions on the thermal behavior of the Cu–9Al–10Mn–3Ag, Cu–9Al–10Mn–3Ag–7Zr, and Cu–9Al–10Mn–3Ag–9Zr alloys were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis, optical micrographs, scanning electron micrographs, microhardness, magnetization as a function of the applied field. The additions of Zr were associated with decreasing in α-phase grain size, changes in saturation magnetization, and with the formation of a new phase in the alloy containing 9 mass% of Zr. In addition, there was an alteration in the mechanism of the Cu2AlMn phase dissolution in the Cu–9Al–10Mn–3Ag–9Zr alloy.
