Abstract

A study has been made of the thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation of polybenzimidazopyrrolone, poly (naphthoylene-bis-benzimidazole), polybenzimidazolobenzoylenebenzimidazoles and polybenzimidazolonaphthoylenebenzimidazoles. The effect of the structure and method of preparation of the polymers on their thermal stability has been found. Some kinetic parameters of thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation have been determined. It is shown that of the above series of polymers poly-(naphthoylene-bis-benzimidazoles) and polybenzimidazolonaphthoylenebenzimidazoles have the highest heat resistance. The results of pyrolysis of model compounds are in qualitative agreement with the results of pyrolysis of the polymers.
