Abstract

The results of investigations of the relationship of the distribution of the arc pressure on the weld pool with the composition of the shielding gas and the characteristics of cathode processes are presented. It is shown that the most favourable pressure curve from the viewpoint of formation of defect-free welded joints is produced using the electrodes forming a diffuse cathode spot and by increasing the helium concentration in the shielding gas in welding with a conical electrode.
