Abstract

A combined solar water and air heater, also known as Dual Purpose Solar Collector (DPSC) is considered for thermal analysis. A combined solarwater and air heater issimply a flat plat collector with two compartments. The compartments are seperated by the absorber plate and the upper compartment is used for heating water and the lower compartment used for heating air. Thermal analysis is conducted using standard method for performance evaluation of Flat Plate Collector (FPC), which includes using effectiveness, collector efficiency factor and collector heat removal factor. The effect of parameters such as solar irradiance, mean plate temperature, cover temperature, mass flow rate of air and water, on the efficiency of the collector is studied. The results indicate a maxium efficiency increase of 0.6% as compared to pure water or air FPC. The analysis is realised using MATLAB tool.
