Abstract
Two-dimensional semiconductors∈dex{semiconductor!two-dimensional} are ideal model systems for investigating the dynamics of the electron-phonon interaction under spatial confinement of electronic excitations. In this contribution, the simultaneous quantum dynamics of electrons and phonons on ultrafast timescales∈dex{phonons on ultrafast timescales} is theoretically addressed. Typical examples include the ultrafast electron transfer at silicon surfaces, optical intersubband transitions in doped quantum wells, and non-equilibrium phonon generation in graphene.
