Abstract

The theory of bi-ferromagnetic interface polaritons is developed, first within the magnetostatic approximation and then generalised to include retardation effects. Such an interface is shown to support two types of polaritons. One is a modified surface mode, which lies above the bulk spin-wave band of one of the ferromagnets. The other mode, unique to the interface, is embedded inside the bulk band of the second ferromagnet. It is shown that for a vanishing static magnetic field only the modified surface mode survives. The retarded interface polaritons have a lower cut-off in momentum space. The modified surface mode is highly localised on one side of the interface near its cut-off, whereas the other mode is highly delocalised on the other side of the interface close to its corresponding cut-off.
