Abstract

There has been an increasing interest recently in base pressure problems at low Mach numbers. The following article concerning steady base flows gives a survey of the present state of knowledge in the field. It first describes general features of two-dimensional steady base flows which have been discovered from experiments. Thereafter various theories derived for the prediction of base pressure in steady base flow are discussed, including some old and several new contributions developed in the 1990s of this century. The theoretical results are compared with experimental data.
