Abstract

The present paper gives a review of various theories developed for the prediction of base pressure in two-dimensional steady base flow. Theories based on the Chapman-Korst flow model are compared with one another and with experimental results. The new theory of Tanner, based on the concept of mass outflow from the dead-air region, is explained. The various achievements in this field will be pointed out and so also those problems which still should be investigated.
