Abstract

A theoretical calculation was performed on the transition probabilities between the np3(n+1)s and np4 configurations of SeI and TeI. The relativistic effects were included using the effective-operator formalism. The radial integrals were evaluated using relativistic self-consistent-field wave functions and lifetimes predicted for the p3s configuration. In order to investigate the importance of relativity on the transition probabilities, an analysis was also carried out within the non-relativistic formalism. The breakdown of LS coupling was taken into account and a comparison was made between the results obtained using the dipole length and the dipole velocity formula for the transition operator.
