Abstract

Wide spread utilization of solar energy can be reduce a significant portion of the conventional energy for the benefits of nation economy. The solar water heating systems are one of the popular devices to harness the sun radiation incident on the surface of earth at free of cost. Through this study, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) were developed the SolTrace 2.0 software tool to design prototype model of parabolic trough collector with consideration of solar heat flux intensity incident on the collector structure. For this numerical study, the several factors are selected such as width of the aperture, length of collector, height of the parabola, receiver tube diameter, focal length, rim angle and concentration ratio. These results were obtained at optimum rim angle of 90° with high solar peak intensity can be achieved 1.75 mts of width of aperture and 0.0254 mts of receiver tube diameter are more sufficient to design the efficient type of parabolic trough collector for medium-scale of applications.
