Abstract

To meet today's requirements for higher performance engine bearings, microgrooved bearings, that is plain bearings with shallow circumferential grooves, were developed. Recently, the performance of microgrooved bearings, obtained experimentally, were reported [1,2]. The authors calculated the bearing performance of the microgrooved bearings by elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory. In this paper, the authors describe theoretically the calculation method and the performance of the microgrooved bearings.
