Abstract

Abstract The Wisconsin Elementary health Education Pilot Project (Pilot Project) examined the impact of practice-oriented health education teacher preparation and school-based team building to improve classroom instruction, school environment, and the diffusion of innovative health promotion strategies for school youth. This article, fourth in a series published in the Journal of Health Education, examines the effect of the Pilot Project on the health knowledge, attitudes, and problem-solving skills of students in the treatment schools. Comparison schools were used and were similar in size, grade levels, and geographic location, yet did not receive advanced health education teacher preparation nor school-based team building efforts.
