Abstract

In 1942 in Munich, there was a group of friends who became known as the White Rose. Most were medical students at Ludwig Maximilian University; several had served as medics in the army. As the war continued, the group became alarmed at the events destroying the German values that they cherished. They decided on a course of covert civil disobedience that included writing and distributing leaflets denouncing Hitler and National Socialism. As a result of their courageous actions, many members of this small resistance movement were discovered, arrested, and executed.
