Abstract

This study is concerned with analyzing how the values of gender equality have been reflected to the development of the image of the ‘bifurcated garments’ for women. Research methodology is a literature survey and a case study. It was done to collect the precedent research papers, specialty books, and publications verified for the ‘bifurcated garments’ being the major keyword of this study and the study-related Internet materials searched with the keyword and derive the comprehensively reliable results through the analysis on that basis. The study results are as follows. The first one is the establishment of fashion image for values of gender equality. The image of the ‘bifurcated garments’ for women played a major role in beauty treatment as well as fashion. The second one is the birth of a new woman. The women who wore reformed dress and were active in social activities were to blame for unchaste and unfeminine acts. But an advanced new woman showing that ‘Wheel’ is ‘New Woman’ was born. The third one is the change of value of femininity. Through the roles of women and the value of femininity after the 20th century, women’s wearing ‘bifurcated garments’ became the role in visualizing the social treatment being the same as that for men. In conclusion, the sociopolitical subject on the values of gender equality was implicated for panning out in the development of the image of the ‘bifurcated garments’ for women.
