As social problems become more extensive and diverse, one of the most critical capabilities of social entrepreneurs is connecting and aligning various stakeholders. Social entrepreneurs can solve problems better through collaboration with stakeholders, and this leads to sustainable innovation of society. Accordingly, social entrepreneurship education (SEE) programs should be designed and operated to cultivate social entrepreneurs’ abilities to enhance connectivity with all relevant entities of the social enterprise ecosystem. Consequently, SEE can form ever-growing communities of social entrepreneurs while functioning as innovation hubs for entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) evolving on their own. To this end, this study proposes a design and assessment framework for SEE. The framework emphasizes strengthening internal connectivity among SEE program members and external connectivity with outside entities, including universities, firms, government agencies, civil societies, and natural environments. This framework clarifies how and to whom social entrepreneurs should connect throughout the SEE process. This paper analyzes the case of an MBA degree SEE program in Korea using this framework and identifies directions for further improvement of SEE, contributing to the social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education literatures by integrating SEE’s key features with social theories of learning and the quintuple helix model for sustainable innovation ecosystems. Practically, our findings provide a useful benchmark to find isolated internal and external entities that need more active interactions to achieve SEE’s purposes.

Despite its long history, social entrepreneurship research and education are not old topics in Iran. In fact, the history mainly goes back to the establishment of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship in the University of Tehran. On the one hand, more generally, the roadmap of research on social entrepreneurship still remains controversial, and fragmented efforts are made and continued to investigate this topic in Iran. On the other hand, social entrepreneurship education was mostly developed based on the topics covered by the curriculum which was designed by the faculty members of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship. Incremental improvements, however, are considered. Thus, the present chapter tried to shed light on social entrepreneurship research and education in Iran. To do so, the main Persian databases for papers (Magiran, SID, and Noormags) and theses (IranDoc, and the Library of the University of Tehran) were selected and searched accordingly. In addition to this, research works indexed in Google scholar, Thomson Reuters and Scopus databases were added. Then, the research works were categorized based on their publication date. Finally, the trend and a classified view of the status quo were presented. Secondly, in order to elaborate on the status of social entrepreneurship education in the country, the evidence from those research works was added to the national reports, and thus an integrated view was offered. In conclusion, the chapter concluded with some remarks on the improvement of the research roadmap and education on social entrepreneurship in Iran, as well as some directions for future research.

PurposeSocial entrepreneurship courses are among the fastest growing category of course offerings to entrepreneurship students (Brock and Kim, 2011) because both high growth potential- and steady growth-social ventures can create value and help solve social issues effectively and efficiently. As knowledge disseminators, entrepreneurship educators are in prime position to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of students, which, in turn, increases their intentions to start a social venture and their ability to manage and grow their venture. Students gain an understanding about the role of entrepreneurship in addressing social opportunities, as well as knowledge related to starting, managing and growing social entrepreneurship ventures. This paper is divided into three parts. First, the authors broadly discuss the concept of social entrepreneurship. Second, the authors present an overview of the field of social entrepreneurship education (SEE) and its evolution. Finally, the authors supplement this review with an analytical examination of SEE, in which the authors present results of a cross-country analysis survey of over 200 entrepreneurship education programs in the USA and Canada. This paper aims to present information about: student enrollment in social entrepreneurship courses in comparison to other entrepreneurship courses; the frequency of offering social entrepreneurship courses and programs compared to other entrepreneurship courses and programs; and future trends in SEE. The results revealed a strong demand for social entrepreneurship from students, room for improvement in terms of the supply of course offerings, and a strong belief in the continued growth of social entrepreneurship. The authors conclude with suggestions about the future of SEE.Design/methodology/approachAnalysis of secondary data derived from the oldest and most-frequently cited sources regarding entrepreneurship education in the USA and a novel data set examining entrepreneurship education in Canada. Both data sets were collected using an online self-report survey.FindingsDemand for SEE continues to rise in both the USA and Canada. However, course and program offerings have not kept pace. Prominent trends in social entrepreneurship such as cross-campus programs and addressing the evolving demographics of students in higher education institutions need more attention.Originality/valueA cross-cultural study of SEE that provides a high-level view of the state of the field today. In addition, the paper outlines the potential of the field of knowledge management for the future of SEE.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the reason of attraction for the young professionals (who left their paid employment) to pursue social entrepreneurship (SE) education, to understand role played by SE education program on developing entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to create social impact and to explore the influence of SE education on their career choices and job-preferences. Design/methodology/approach This exploratory study uses qualitative methodology to collect data from 16 alumni of Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship (MASE) Program, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Findings The findings indicate that the knowledge and skills learned through the MASE program played a significant role to create an entrepreneurial mindset and put such skills into action to create impact (as job creator/entrepreneur or job seeker/intrapreneur) as well any change in their career choice, job-preference and job-mobility. The findings force us to re-define “success of SE education”, as in both the cases, they are creating social impact using their entrepreneurship knowledge and skills. Career advancement and personal growth opportunities, and their willingness to create impact as decision makers act as strongest motivators to choose the program. Furthermore, the study also highlights the additional factors, which influence their decision of choosing/not choosing SE as career option. Research limitations/implications The findings cannot be generalized. The qualitative data is analyzed inductively to arrive at the findings. Practical implications The findings are relevant for SE educators and also the policy makers. Promotion of SE education will not only create employment for others, but will also address several other social problems, and contribute to inclusive development of the country. Originality/value The uniqueness lies in understanding the motivations behind the decision of pursuing MASE program then followed by exploring the influence of SE education on their career choices and job-preferences.

With economic globalization and rapid development of science and technology, many colleges and universities pay more and more attention to the cultivation of students’ innovative thinking and creativity, and innovation and entrepreneurship education has also become an important part of the education system. Due to the current unevenness of teachers in innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities, high training cost, and lack of strong atmosphere, this paper optimizes the innovation and entrepreneurship education and training system in colleges and universities through OpenStack cloud computing. This paper optimizes the cloud computing platform according to the OpenStack virtual machine and the multiobjective ant colony improvement algorithm and then designs the innovation and entrepreneurship education and training system. The multiobjective ant colony improvement algorithm uses the way ants find food to find the best information resource route from the traces left by the information trend in the cloud platform. In order to test the effectiveness of these methods, this paper uses the simulation method to test. The results show that, sometimes, the load utilization rate of the innovation and entrepreneurship education and training system in colleges and universities exceeds 80%, which is in line with the expected settings. Through the OpenStack cloud computing platform, it can provide a good innovation and entrepreneurship training environment for more users at low cost and low risk and promote the development of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
