Abstract

The scapular island flap easily covers the anterior and posterior aspects of the axilla, providing a smooth skin surface with good underlying subcutaneous fatty tissue. Its elastic properties are well adapted to the dynamic requirements of the shoulder joint. Performed in 20 patients for treatment of axillary postburn contractures, this flap led to a convincing improvement of the shoulder range of motion and satisfying aesthetic results.
