Abstract
The main part of the ancient sculptures in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek were acquired in the previous century in Rome. The intense building activity creating housing and facilities for the growing number of civil servants who came to the new capital to participate in the administration of a united Italy had as a bi-product the finds of ancient houses, tombs and public buildings from antiquity and in them were found a great deal of sculpture. The majority of the finds were brought to the collections of the state and the commune, but many found their discrete way abroad.
