Abstract
Satellite imagery can be of very real value in the exploration of poorly mapped areas of the world. landsat is now virtually worldwide in coverage and in its simplest form can be obtained from nasa at a cost within the means of even small expeditions. This note provides some useful information to potential explorers on the types of satellite data available and the best means of acquiring and using it for the planning of an expedition's programme and to construct a reliable map on which to base most types of field activity.
