Abstract

Objective To discuss the clinical value and superiority of Harmonic Focus+ scalpel in axillary lymph node dissection. Methods From Oct. 2015 to Jun. 2016,136 breast cancer patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy were randomly divided into two groups: 68 cases were operated using the Harmonic Focus+ scalpel and 68 using the mono-polar electric cautery. Statistical tests were used to compare the two groups, operating time, blood loss, postoperative drainage volume and time, visual analogue scale, and postoperative complications. Results Compared with the electric cautery group, the operating time, blood loss, total drainage time and volume, and visual analogue scale were significantly decreased in the Harmonic Focus group(P 0.05) . Conclusions Axillary lymph node dissection using Harmonic Focus+ scalpel is feasible and safe, can decrease the operation time, and simplifies the surgical procedure. Harmonic Focus+ scapel as a new surgical instrument deserves to be used widely. Key words: Harmonic Focus+ scapel; Electro-surgery; Breast cancer; Axillary lymph node dissection
