Abstract
Introduction: Invasive fungal infection (IFI) results in significant morbidity and mortality in high risk intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Current culture based and non-culture based diagnostic methods are suboptimal. Beta-D-glucan (BDG) is a fungal biomarker now included in European guidelines for this purpose.
