Abstract

The thawing of (f)rigid attitudes between the USSR and the USA affected ocean science in June 1990, when these two countries reached an Agreement on Cooperation in Ocean Studies. There is a marked contrast between the treatment given to access to marine scientific research information under this agreement and under Part XIII of the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention (LOSC). In this commentary the differences are identified.
