Abstract

The newest Farm Bill was signed into law on February 7, 2014, after a fervent 3-year political debate. The Bill was scheduled to pass in 2012. However, disagreements over the budget, commodity subsidies, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program stalled its passing. This is the first time in US history that the Farm Bill has been this delayed. This commentary will provide an overview and history of the US Farm Bill, with a particular emphasis on the nutrition provisions.
