Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of construction of the Soviet myth about the Urals - opornyj kraj [the stronghold of the state], as Alexander Tvardovsky called, on the newspaper Literary Ural (Molotov, 1943). Fiction texts and articles of that newspaper are analyzed as a whole text, which expresses the theses formed a representation of the region and its inhabitants: the Urals is the center of the country's defense power, its history is older than the Soviet one, the rear cities have as the important role as the front-line ones.
