Abstract
Herpes zoster infection corresponds to the reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus, and is characterised by a vesicular dermatomal rash, which usually spontaneously resolves, but can result in persistent (>3 months) debilitating pain, known as postherpetic neuralgia. Two vaccines are available against herpes zoster, namely zoster vaccine live (ZVL) and a newer, recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV), available since 2017.
