Abstract
This project will investigate the human impact that rock climbing has had on the natural environment across the United States, with a specific focus on bolting debates as well as the proliferation of the practice of climbing on Native American lands without permission. With this, it will also be considering the impact rock climbing has had on culture and the appreciation of the environment, and whether increased access to the sport through improving safety (bolting) has proved to be worth any detrimental effects it may have caused.
