Abstract

This chapter discusses the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights as a framework for action in global textile supply chains. It provides a historical introduction to the UN Guiding Principles and explains their underlying rationale, motivation and fundamental principles. The UN Guiding Principles are then discussed in detail, including mechanisms of application and implementation in a business context. The chapter furthermore highlights National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights and reflects on their potential ability to facilitate the application of the UN Guiding Principles at the national level. Finally, Business Networks and Multi-stakeholder Initiatives are discussed, considering their potential impact on implementing Human Rights in the globalized economy.
