Abstract
Objcetive:This paper discusses the optimal treatment for yolk sac tumor of the testis of stage Ⅰ in childhood.Methods:Fourteen children with yolk sac tumor(stage Ⅰ 10,stage Ⅱ 4)underwent orchiectomy.Seven cases of stage Ⅰ were under 1 year of age.Retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy was done in 9 cases at the same time,only one found metastasis in lymph nodes.Postoperative systemic chemotherapy was not given.Results:Twelve cases have got a follow-up.Of them.9 cases who received operation under one year of age survived(followed-up from 25 mons to 10 yrs)and 3(older than 1 year)died of pulmonary or retroperitoneal metastasis.Conclusions:Orchiectomy is a simple and effective treatment for infants(＜1 year)with yolk sac tumor in stage Ⅰ and gives rise to a tumor-free survival.
