Abstract

1. 1. The method of treating varicose ulcers, advocated by DICKSON WRIGHT, has been applied to tropical ulcers as far as the materials at our disposal allowed. 2. 2. Ulcers of all types were treated with excellent results. 3. 3. The treatment is ambulatory and does not interfere with the work of native labour. 4. 4. Attention by the medical attendant is required only once a week or once a fortnight. 5. 5. It is inexpensive, the estimated cost not exceeding one shilling per week. 6. 6. As far as our experience goes, the statement that there is no danger in imprisoning the septic secretions of the foulest ulcer, has been confirmed. 7. 7. Eczema and blistering sometimes occur but are not contra-indications to continuing the treatment. 8. 8. The method requires no special skill and can be applied by any practitioner. 9. 9. It is particularly suited to native patients who soon tire of either prolonged in-patient treatment, or daily attendance at the out-patient department.
