Abstract
The transient response in a CCTS semiconductor bistable laser under external light injection has been analyzed by multimode rate equations. It is found that, under electric current excitation, there is a damped oscillation in the output photon densities and optical-gain during switching on, and the light output at steady-state is in a single mode. Under external light illumination, the multimode self-pulsation is also observed, and the light output mode is not related to the incident light, it is only decided by the mode competition in the bistable laser.
