Abstract

Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors for many developed or developing countries because of the important resources it provides, both in terms of financial returns or the creation of jobs and employment, which prompted Algeria to pay attention to this sector and work on its development and development, making it a sustainable resource and achieving the sustainable development goals adopted by Algeria. This study seeks to highlight the relationship between the importance of tourism as an economic sector, and the concept of sustainable development as one of the strategies of the Algerian state in achieving comprehensive development. Where we focused our attention in this study on reviewing basic concepts about tourism and sustainable development, as well as reviewing the reality and prospects of the tourism sector in Algeria, while identifying the obstacles and challenges facing the sector. Where we concluded that despite the achievements made by Algerian tourism, it still suffers from many shortcomings, which led to the weak contribution of tourism to the domestic product, tourism exports and tourism investments, as well as the low rate of tourist influx of foreign and local tourists, which constitutes an obstacle towards the realization of sustainable development goals.
