Abstract

Summary It is shown that zeolites can be characterized and classified by means of topological structure analysis. The topology used is a non-metrical geometry. The advantage of using these topological structure description is that the general structural properties representing the frame for the physics and chemistry of materials can be declared with simple numbers of the topological parameters N k1 . The local reciprocal curves of the cellular configuration b 3 1 /1 1 1 , expressed in the topological parameters, are measures for both the compactness and the catalytical properties of zeolites.the general structure function N 2 1 = N 2 1 (N 3 2 , N 0 1 , N 1 2 ) of the independent topological parameters N k 1 is deduced from the theory of cellular configurations. The distribution functions g 2 1 i and g 3 2 i of the faces and polyhedra, respectively, which may build up the variety of zeolite configurations, are given.
