Abstract

The temporal area of the external head, of the skull, and of the brain are not congruent: Temporal area of the head. This area is congruent with M. temporalis. Temporal area of the skull (Fossa temporalis) is congruent with the temporal area of the head, but it is not identical to the segments of temporal bone (not identical to Squama temp., Pars mastoidea, or Pars petrosa). The anterior segment of Fossa temporalis is built by Ala major of the sphenoid bone, by the lateral posterior basal segment of Squama frontalis, by Processus frontalis of the zygomatic bone, and by the anterior basal segment of the parietal bone. The segments of the frontal and sphenoid bone enclose Pars orbitalis of the third frontal Gyrus, which overlaps Pterion and the margin of Ala minor in a posterior direction. The anterior bony segment of Fossa temporalis overlap the frontal (and not temporal) gyri. Pars mastoidea of the temporal bone overlaps the occipital (not the temporal) area of the brain. The temporal lobe of the brain is overlapped by the inferior 2/3 of Squama temp. The superior segment of Squama temporalis overlaps the parietal lobe of the brain.
