Abstract
The article by Haroub Othman entitled "The Tanzanian State" (MR, December 1974) requires an answer. A concrete analysis of the state is of utmost importance in the struggle for socialism: the correct stategy and tactics of the struggle cannot be worked out without such an analysis. Moreover this analysis itself tends to be deepened by the experiences gained in the process of the struggle.
