Abstract

By using the FAST system, a range of lightweight wool and wool-blend fabrics, including three wool fabrics treated with Synthappret BAP shrinkproofing resin to obtain machine-washable properties, was investigated in terms of tailorability. The main problems with these fabrics were found to be their low warp extensibility, low bending rigidity, low shear rigidity, and low formability, which would lead to tailoring problems during laying, cutting, sewing, and fabric manipulation. A commercial Synthappret BAP treatment was found to improve the tailorability of the lightweight wool fabrics by increasing fabric bending rigidity and formability.
