Abstract

The synergy between highly dispersed Zn species and oxygen vacancy guides the CO 2 hydrogenation reaction via the formate route, which essentially contributes to the high selectivity of methanol and greatly suppresses the RWGS reaction. • A Zn a Ti b O x catalyst with surface polarity and oxygen vacancy was prepared. • The catalyst structure was elucidated by synchrotron XRD and other techniques. • The synergy between Zn and oxygen vacancy guides CO 2 reaction via formate route. • The selectivity of methanol was up to 85.6% with RWGS reaction greatly suppressed.
