Abstract

The partition of uranium (VI) between sulphuric acid solutions and solutions containing combinations of di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid (DEHPA) and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in kerosene has been investigated at varying concentrations of sulphuric acid, solvent, and uranium and at different temperatures. The change in the acidity of the organic solutions has also been examined. An infra-red spectral study has been made of the organic phases obtained. The mechanism on the synergic effect of TBP in the extraction of uranium (VI) from sulphuric acid solutions by DEHPA is discussed on the basis of the results obtained.
