Abstract

Abstract Edge dislocations moving in ionic crystals acquire a charge as a result of the sweeping-up of cation vacancies. The nature of this dynamic equilibrium process is analysed for non-irradiated extrinsic alkali halides at temperatures where diffusion can be ignored.
