Abstract
ABSTRACT Forty-three tourism experts in the eight South Central Coast provinces of Vietnam were invited to assess the sustainability of tourism development based on a set of inheritance indicators. The analysis results indicate that the province of Quang Nam has the most highly evolved sustainable tourism development for all four indicators (economic, social, environmental, and institutional). Although the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, and Binh Thuan had all made steps in tourism development, many were unstable. The provinces of Phu Yen and Quang Ngai were the two most undervalued locations in terms of tourism development. This paper suggests policies based on these findings that will help the tourism industry in the South Central Coast move towards future sustainable development.
