Abstract

Objective To study the mental health status of nurses after nurse-patient dispute and its relevant factors. Methods After the nurse-patient dispute one week later, a case control study on 36 nurses in dispute group and some in normal control group was performed. The following three questionnaires are administered by each subject: the symptom sheck list 90 (SCL-90), the simplified coping style questionnaire (SCSQ) , the social support rating scale (SSRS). Results The total scores, the average value of the total scores in dispute group were significantly higher than those for the Chinese adult norm and the control group (P <0. 05 and P <0. 01). Coping style and social support were significantly associated with the status of the mental health (P <0. 05 and P <0.01). Conclusions The mental health levels of nurse in dispute group were obviously lower than common group, and obviously effected by coping style and social support.
