Abstract
In this study, Verbascum thapsus leaf (VTL) was used for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) which was in-situ grown on the UP150 membrane. Commercial available UP150 membrane surface was coated by Ag NPs using VTL extract. The highest (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate) (DPPH) and metal chelating activities of green synthesized Ag NPs were found as 87.71% and 100%, respectively. The antimicrobial activities of green synthesized Ag NPs were investigated by using disc diffusion and micro-dilution processes. The green synthesized Ag NPs also displayed DNA cleavage activity. E. coli cell viability was inhibited as 98.75% at 500 mg/L concentration when compared with control. The biofilm inhibition activity of green synthesized Ag NPs was also studied using S. aureus and P. aeruginosa and the highest biofilm inhibition rate was obtained as 81.29%. In addition to these, the usability of green synthesized Ag NPs for antimicrobial activity of solid surface of membrane and application of polyethersulfone (PES) membrane coated with green synthesized Ag NPs for E. coli removal were investigated.
