Abstract

Abstract In a historical survey of glaciological research in the Soviet Arctic the author traces the impact of such programs as the Second International Polar Year, the International Geophysical Year and the International Hydrological Decade on the advancement of knowledge in this area. She reviews achievements of Soviet glaciologists on Novaya Zemlya, Franz Josef Land and most recently on Severnaya Zemlya.
