Abstract

Contradictory social policies and attitudes about gender diversity raise questions about how we should understand the current status of the historical 'heterosexual' gender regime. Drawing on the work of the feminist philosopher and psychoanalyst Luce Irigaray, this essay argues that sexual difference is the irreducible starting point for all meaning, sense, morality and affect.
