Abstract

Conditions of the eye that the nurse may deal with frequently include conjunctivitis and glaucoma. A knowledge of the structures and function of the eye related to these conditions, and the use of medications to cure or minimize their effect, are discussed in this article. The use of mydriatics to enlarge the pupil during eye examination is explained, and best practice for application of eye drops or ointment is considered.
