The structure and decay-dynamics of the 2s2p3p and 3d configurations in F V

Abstract

Using the beam-foil technique we have identified 15 new lines in F V as combinations between the quartet levels in the 2s2p3s, 3p and 3d configurations. Accurate experimental lifetimes for all quartets in 3p and for the 3d 4F levels are obtained by explicitly including the measured dominant cascade repopulation in the decay curve analyses using the ANDC method. In the 3p4D and 3d 4F terms a pronounced J-dependence of the lifetimes is found. To interpret the experimental results we have performed theoretical calculations using the superposition-of-configurations technique.
