Abstract

This paper discusses recent progress made in the measurement and analysis of atomic lifetimes using the beam–foil technique. In particular the problems associated with measurements for short-lived (ps) levels and levels subject to significant cascade repopulation will be addressed. A review will also be presented of recent experimental and theoretical studies of the decay-dynamics for quartet levels in the 2s2p3p and 3d configurations along the B I isoelectronic sequence.
