Abstract

The finite element method has been used for modeling the stressed-strained state in the chip forming zone in cutting workpieces of hardened steels by tools equipped with cutting inserts of cubic boron nitride-based polycrystalline superhard material (PCBN). Special features of the stressed-strained state in the chip forming zone when using tools with a flat and a cylindrical rake faces have been discussed.
