Abstract
Formulas for the stress intensity factor at the tips of two collinear Griffith cracks and the normal component of surface displacement are derived for stress-free cracks within a strip of finite width in which there is a symmetrical distribution of body forces. The two cracks are situated symmetrically on a line perpendicular to the edges of the strip which are constrained in such a way that the normal displacement and the shearing stress both vanish along each edge. The results for a partially closed Griffith crack in the strip are also obtained.
