Abstract

Objective To explore the status of quality of life in schizophrenics with Yao or Han nationality at convalescence who were living in Yuebei district,and to provide support for improvement of their quality of life.Methods 30 hospitalized schizophrenics with Yao nationality at convalescence were enrolled into a study group,while 30 patients with Han nationality at convalescence were included in a control group.Qualities of life was assessed by using the WHO Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL).The factors which were likely to influence quality of life were analyzed.Results The study group had significantly lower scores of the WHOQOL in physical health,psychological health,social function,and total assessment than the control group did (P< 0.01).Conclusions The quality of life is significantly lower in the schizophrenics with Yao nationality than in those with Han nationality.The main factors influencing quality of life in schizophrenics with Yao nationality are economic status,living environment,medical service,and social and familial support system.
